| We decided it would be
cool if we had a big group from the same series. So we chose .hack//SIGN
since it was new and we all liked it. I got Sora because I didn't want to
be Bear (the whole no shirt thing again), which actually worked out for
the best. Sora's actions and the noises he makes are pretty random, plus
he becomes really cool later on in the series, so it was a good fit
bamyoum.
After much procrastination, the suit got made. The pants were really big pants sewn small along the calves. The shirt was a jacket pattern sewn big around the shoulders. The purple stripes were hand sewn in (Julie is the hand sewing goddess). For the bangs, a piece of fake hair was attached to the head band and drooped down. Unfortunately we couldn't keep the hair from puffing up, so it looked kind of silly (not that the whole thing didn't look silly, but you know). The part I'm really proud of is the weapons. Crafted out of foam core, then covered with paper machier to smooth out the edges, then spray painted. They were really cool since the blades were separate from the arm things and thus could be removed. Unfortunately, CN Anime 2002 embodied Murphy's Law for our group. The weapons were left behind in Kingston, so I had to make an extra trip back for them. Which resulted in me missing all of Friday's events. The costume wasn't done until an hour before the time we were supposed to show up for Masquerade sign in. Workmanship judging got cancelled, thus we are only judged on our skit, which means the weapons weren't needed and the trip could have been avoided. And finally the audio for our prerecorded skit was screwed up so the words couldn't be heard. The final nail in the coffin of our hopes of winning something.
